The Greene County Middle School is excited to share with you that our second semester begins Tuesday, January 24th, and that we have made some revisions to our master schedule to increase students' learning time that will benefit overall student achievement. The following are highlights in our new schedule.
•Our students will be having their Expert 21 reading lessons in their English Language Arts classes. The Expert 21 Curriculum is an integrated, high interest reading program that prepares our students for more learning opportunities using vocabulary and comprehension strategies that prepare our students for high school and college level work.
•Encore teachers will have longer class periods and the schedule now permits more course offerings.
•There is more flexibility in our Physical Education program allowing our teachers/coaches to expand the types of activities our students will be able to do.
•The lunch schedule will be different in that sixth graders will now go to the first lunch block and seventh graders will go to the second lunch block.
•Students that need extra learning time in their content areas will be provided assistance to aquire skills to be more successful.
•All students will continue to have the same core teachers unless you were notified about a change through a separate phone call or letter.
Another second semester change it that we are going to host a "Walk the Schedule" Night instead of a regular Open House so that parents can walk through their child's schedule to get information from all the teachers about third quarter expectations and and up-coming assignments and/or projects. The "Walk-the-Schedule" Night is on Thursday, February 9 from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. The purpose of this special event is for parents to follow the chid's schedule therefore, this will not be a time for parent conferences. If a parent conference is needed, please contact your child's teacher and set this meeting up for another time. Teachers are available during the day during their planning period or after school. We are excited about this special event and look forward to your coming out and experiencing a "day-in-the-life" of your child's daily schedule!
Report cards will go home on January 27th.
